May 5 is the National Day of Awareness

The statistics of missing and murdered Indigenous/Native women increase everyday and with stay-at-home orders enacted officials expect these rates of violence to grow higher still.
Native women are murdered at a rate 10 times the national average and h
omicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among Native women and girls and 10-24 years of age. Unfortunately many of these cases go unsolved and unfiled due to complex legal and jurisdictional rules. At this time only 116 of the 5,712 cases of murdered or missing Native women have been logged into the Department of Justice’s nationwide database.
May 5 is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous/ Native Women and Girls. The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) still needs to be renewed.. Join the Friends Committee on National Legislation for a virtual lobby training and learn how you can help address this crisis.
